Synagogues Jewish historically practised the use of psalms and hymns to their religious services, a practice that was transferred in early Christian churches. During the Middle Ages, the practice of singing hymns of the Congregation of decreased slightly in Western Europe. One reason was that the hymns were, however, more and more complex, while the laity, everything had begun to use less often Latin. Subsequent to sing the anthem was almost entirely the use during this time in the church.
